Xbox has announced Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC, a new program that lets classic original Xbox games run on PC and PC-based handheld devices. The rollout began today, with four original Xbox titles available as the first wave: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. All four games can be bought individually and are also included with every tier of Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox said the launch marks the start of a larger plan to preserve older Xbox games and bring more of them to PC over time. Players who already own digital licenses for these games on console will have those licenses carry over to PC or handheld automatically. Support for Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming means the same four games can now be played across Xbox consoles, the cloud, PC, and handhelds.
Beyond simply making the games playable on PC, Xbox has added new options meant to improve the experience while keeping the original gameplay intact. These include graphics settings such as up to 4x resolution upscaling, VSync support, fullscreen and windowed display modes, anisotropic filtering, and enhanced anti-aliasing, along with adjustable language and audio settings.
To access these backward compatible games, players need a PC or handheld that meets certain requirements through the Xbox on PC app. The minimum specifications call for an Nvidia GTX 950, AMD Radeon RX 550, Intel UHD 770, or Intel Arc A310 graphics card, a four core CPU such as an Intel Core i3-8100, AMD Ryzen 3 1200, or AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, 8GB of RAM, and Windows 11 with drivers updated as of January 2026. Recommended specifications are higher, including a Radeon RX 6800, Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti, or Intel Arc A770 graphics card, a six core, twelve thread CPU like an Intel Core i5-10400, AMD Ryzen 5 3600, or AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 8GB of GPU VRAM, DirectX 12 support at Hardware Feature Level 11, and Windows 11 with up to date drivers.
More features are planned for the future. Xbox confirmed that Achievements, a frequently requested feature, will be added to select original Xbox games on both console and PC later this year. The four games available today are set to receive Achievements support in the coming months.
