Nintendo has released a new eight-minute overview trailer for Splatoon Raiders, a single-player-focused treasure hunting adventure game set in the Splatoon universe. The game is scheduled to launch for Switch 2 on July 23.

In Splatoon Raiders, players take on the role of a mechanic who joins forces with Deep Cut, the trio of musicians made up of Shiver, Frye, and Big Man. The story begins when a strange storm forces a helicopter carrying Deep Cut to crash land on the Spirhalite Islands. After spending a month building a hideout ship, the player and their crew set out to raid the surrounding islands in search of treasure, all while trying to find a way back home.

The Spirhalite Islands feature a mix of environments both above and below ground. Players head out on raids to fight Salmonid enemies, collect salvage, and gather Spirhalite Crystals along with other treasure. Some stages also contain rare relics that can boost the player’s abilities. Anything collected during solo raids stays with the player regardless of how the raid turns out. Salvage gathered from these raids can then be used back at the Hideout Ship to upgrade gear, level up weapons, and improve the base itself.

Players can choose between three types of tanks, each suited to a different playstyle. The Speed Tank focuses on gadgets that improve mobility, the Power Tank is built for taking on Salmonids directly, and the Tactical Tank offers gadgets for controlling the battlefield strategically. Tanks can be swapped between missions depending on the approach a player wants to take.

Movement in the game revolves around ink, which can be used for offense, defense, and getting around. Players can switch into Swim Form to move quickly through ink of their own color, refill their tank, swim up ink-covered walls, and pass through certain barriers. Catching a gust of wind lets players soar across gaps or gain height, which can help with exploring or repositioning during fights.

During raids, one member of Deep Cut joins the player in a powerful bot construct. This companion helps out in battle, and players can also jump off the bot to soar to greater heights or build up Showstopper attacks.

Enemies in the game come in the form of Salmonids, which appear in larger numbers and include some new forms not seen before in the series. While they put up a tough fight, the loot they drop can help players progress. The game includes three difficulty settings, Tourist, Raider, and Survivalist, which can be changed at any time. These settings only affect combat difficulty and do not change the amount of loot available.

Splatoon Raiders also supports online or local wireless co-op for up to four players total. Player power is automatically scaled to help balance the experience for everyone involved. Additionally, the game supports amiibo figures from the Splatoon series, which can be used to unlock new outfits for the mechanic character.

With its release just around the corner, Splatoon Raiders adds a new single-player-driven experience to the Splatoon franchise, blending treasure hunting, customization, and combat against familiar Salmonid foes.
