Nintendo has officially announced that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. The news was revealed during a Nintendo Direct, with Nintendo confirming the game will launch sometime this year, though further details are yet to be shared.
“The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: The Nintendo 64 classic returns for a new generation in 2026, reborn exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2,” Nintendo said in its announcement. A teaser trailer and a single image for the game were also released alongside the news.

Ocarina of Time first came out on the Nintendo 64 back in 1998 and has long been regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made. It holds a Metacritic score of 99, placing it at the very top of the site’s all-time best games list. The game is widely seen as a landmark title in the action-adventure genre and had a major influence on how games were designed in the years that followed.
This will not be the first time the game has been revisited. Back in 2011, Nintendo released a remaster on the Nintendo 3DS called Ocarina of Time 3D, which brought improved controls and touchscreen support to the experience. The upcoming Switch 2 version, however, is being described as a remake rather than a remaster, marking a bigger rework of the original title.

Nintendo has not yet revealed additional details such as pricing, a specific release date, or what changes the remake will bring to the original game. More information is expected to follow in the coming months ahead of its 2026 release.
