Nintendo has announced a brand new entry in the Xenoblade series called Xenoblade Genesis, set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The game was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation, with Nintendo describing it as “a new beginning for the Xenoblade series.” Further details about the game will be shared at a later date.
The announcement came with a trailer that gives a first look at the game’s setting and story. According to the trailer’s voiceover, the world of Xenoblade Genesis is shaped by a force called Anima. “Water, fire, wind. Every force that gave shape to this world was a manifestation of the Anima that flows through the land,” the voiceover explains. Battles in this world are decided by those who can wield Anima’s power, a group of warriors referred to as Vesselai.

The trailer also introduces what appears to be a female protagonist who is a student at a school called Leukos. She takes up a sword and makes a vow to uphold its honor. Another character explains to her the significance of a gemstone embedded in the blade, called an Anima crystone. The stone is said to amplify a Vesselai’s powers while also recording the bearer’s thoughts and actions, with everything at Leukos, both academic and personal, tied to it.

The trailer closes with a line that hints at a larger conflict in the story: “This is a land warmed by the light of six suns. And it is here where mankind would learn that the vengeance of a fallen god had yet to be fulfilled.”
With Nintendo keeping most details under wraps for now, Xenoblade fans will have to wait for future announcements to learn more about what the game has in store.
