Valve has officially announced that the new Steam Controller will launch on May 4, 2026, through Steam. The controller will be priced at USD99 (around MYR468), with regional pricing also set at £85 and €99.
Designed as a modern input device for the wider Steam ecosystem, the Steam Controller aims to provide a versatile option for players using PC, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and other supported devices. Valve is positioning it as an all-in-one controller built for both traditional gamepad titles and mouse-and-keyboard experiences.
Built for the Full Steam Library

According to Valve, the Steam Controller has been designed specifically to work with Steam Input, allowing users to fully customise controls across thousands of games. This means players can remap buttons, create profiles, and access community-made control schemes from day one.
Because the controller shares input parity with the Steam Deck, many existing community configurations will already be compatible at launch. This should make setup easier for players jumping into older or more complex PC titles.
New Features Include Magnetic Thumbsticks and Grip Sense

One of the standout additions is the use of next-generation magnetic thumbsticks powered by TMR technology. Valve says these are built for improved durability, smoother response, and long-term reliability.
The controller also introduces Grip Sense, a new capacitive touch input located on the back grips. This allows players to activate gyro aiming simply by holding the controller naturally, then disable it when released. It can also be remapped like a normal button.
Other major features include:

HD Rumble and Advanced Haptics
The Steam Controller includes multiple haptic motors designed for more detailed vibration feedback. This includes motors in both the grips and trackpads for enhanced tactile response.
Dual Trackpads Return
Valve continues its signature dual-trackpad design, giving users another way to play strategy games, shooters, and titles normally suited to a mouse. The trackpads are pressure-sensitive and support adjustable click strength.
Four Rear Grip Buttons
There are four assignable back buttons, allowing players to keep thumbs on the sticks or trackpads while using extra commands.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The Steam Controller supports several connection methods, including wireless through the included Steam Controller Puck, Bluetooth, and USB-C wired play.
Valve states the wireless mode offers low latency performance, while the battery is rated for over 35 hours of gameplay under normal conditions.
Steam Controller Compatibility

The controller works with devices running Steam, including Windows PC, Mac, Linux, tablets, smartphones, and the Steam Link app. It is also designed as a natural companion for the Steam Deck, whether docked or handheld.
Steam Controller Release Date

The Steam Controller launches worldwide on May 4, 2026, priced at USD99 (around MYR468). With modern features, broad compatibility, and deep Steam Input customisation, Valve appears to be targeting players who want a premium controller built specifically for the PC gaming ecosystem.
