Konami hasn’t decided what’s next for the Metal Gear series after the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid Delta, according to series producer Noriaki Okamura. In an interview with Japanese publication Real Sound, Okamura explained that the company is still figuring out its plans for Metal Gear beyond the previously announced Master Collection Volume 2.
“Right now, we’re still in the stage of thinking about what to make next,” Okamura said. He noted that Metal Gear has brought in new players, and the team wants to build on that success. However, nothing is set in stone yet—the next project could be another remake or something completely different.

Okamura pointed out that the Metal Gear series spans different eras of gaming, from pixel art to cinematic presentations. Because of this variety, each game would need its own approach for a remake or update. The team doesn’t plan to use the same method they used for Metal Gear Solid Delta on every title.
“We have no intention of simply applying the same methodology we used for MGS Delta to every game. We want to determine the most suitable approach for each game,” he explained.
Okamura also mentioned the challenge of rebuilding the team after many original staff members had left. The current team worked to preserve what made the original games special while making them enjoyable for today’s players.

When asked specifically about remaking Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots—the PlayStation 3 entry that has never been re-released—Okamura acknowledged the difficulties. He explained that the PS3’s hardware required unusual design choices, which made the game’s code complicated. Bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 to modern platforms would be a significant challenge because of this. For now, Konami is exploring what direction to take the series next, but no concrete plans have been finalized.
