SEGA has announced SEGA UNIVERSE, a new initiative spotlighting classic franchises under the concept “NO OLD, STAY GOLD.” The program focuses on celebrating legacy intellectual properties through anniversary-themed projects and cross-media expansion efforts.
While specific titles tied to new releases or collaborations have not yet been confirmed, the initiative highlights several major anniversaries across SEGA’s catalogue in 2026.
According to SEGA, the goal is not simply to revisit older properties for nostalgia’s sake, but to reintroduce them as evolving creative works that continue to connect with new generations across games and other entertainment mediums.
Fantasy Zone (40th Anniversary)

Fantasy Zone celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026. Originally released as an arcade shooter, the game stood out for its free-directional scrolling and shop-based upgrade system.
Players control Opa-Opa while attempting to stop a mysterious fortress-building organisation threatening the Fantasy Zone universe.
Out Run (40th Anniversary)

Out Run also reaches its 40th anniversary this year. The arcade driving classic became known for its sense of speed, branching routes, and memorable soundtrack.
Interest in the franchise recently resurfaced following the announcement of a film adaptation directed by Michael Bay in 2025.
Streets of Rage (35th Anniversary)

Streets of Rage marks its 35th anniversary in 2026. The series helped define the belt-scrolling action genre and became widely recognised for its cooperative gameplay and soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro.
Its mix of rhythmic music and street-level action remains a defining part of SEGA’s identity from the 16-bit era.
Rent A Hero (35th Anniversary)

Rent A Hero also celebrates its 35th anniversary. The action RPG follows a protagonist who rents a powered suit and takes on missions across the city in a humorous twist on traditional superhero stories.
The game later received a remake titled Rent A Hero No.1 for Dreamcast and remains a cult favourite among fans.
Guardian Heroes (30th Anniversary)

Guardian Heroes reaches its 30th anniversary this year. The action RPG blends side-scrolling combat with branching story paths and multiplayer battle modes supporting up to six players.
Its distinctive three-lane combat system helped set it apart from other action titles of its time.
NiGHTS into Dreams (30th Anniversary)

NiGHTS into Dreams celebrates 30 years in 2026. Developed by Sonic Team, the flight-action title follows children exploring the dream world of Nightopia alongside NiGHTS.
The game’s floating movement mechanics and Artificial Life system later influenced creature behaviour systems used in later SEGA titles.
Dynamite Deka (30th Anniversary)

Dynamite Deka also marks its 30th anniversary. The action title features a team attempting to rescue the president’s daughter from terrorists occupying a skyscraper.
Its exaggerated combat style and improvised weapon use helped establish it as one of SEGA’s more unconventional arcade-era action games.
Sakura Wars (30th Anniversary)

Sakura Wars celebrates its 30th anniversary as one of SEGA’s most influential multimedia franchises.
Set in a fictional Taisho-era world with advanced steam technology, the series combined dramatic storytelling with strategy gameplay and animated sequences. Its popularity later expanded into anime, stage productions, novels, and manga.
Segagaga (25th Anniversary)

Segagaga marks its 25th anniversary in 2026. Released for Dreamcast, the simulation RPG follows protagonist Taro Sega as he attempts to restore the company’s dominance in a fictionalised version of the games industry.
The title gained attention for its satirical take on SEGA’s own history and the realities of game development.
More Details Expected Later
SEGA has not yet revealed the full scope of projects tied to SEGA UNIVERSE, but the initiative is expected to extend beyond games into film, music, fashion, and other entertainment formats.
Further announcements related to anniversary celebrations under the SEGA UNIVERSE banner are expected in the future.
