SEGA and RGG Studio have officially announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads during Summer Game Fest 2026, confirming it as a full new installment in the long-running fighting game series. The game was previously referred to only as Virtua Fighter New Project and now has a proper title along with a 2027 release window.
The announcement came with a first trailer introducing Cielo, a new fighter in the series. The trailer gave viewers a look at what the game is going for, mixing cinematic storytelling with the kind of action the Virtua Fighter series is known for. According to SEGA, the game aims to take an unconventional approach to the fighting game genre while still holding onto the core of what made the original series stand out: realistic combat and accessible controls.

RGG Studio, the team behind the Yakuza and Like a Dragon games, is handling development. This marks the studio’s first time working on a Virtua Fighter title, and the project appears to be a significant shift in direction for the franchise. A dedicated Virtua Fighter Crossroads showcase is also set to premiere the same day at 5:00PM PDT across YouTube, Twitch, X, TikTok, and Facebook. That showcase promised a deeper look at the game, including details on the new battle system and information about the writing talent attached to the project.
