Square Enix closed out Summer Game Fest 2026 with one of the show’s biggest announcements in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. The game is set to launch in Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Epic Games Store, and Steam, all at the same time. Unlike the previous two entries in the series, which launched as timed PlayStation exclusives, Revelation will be available on all platforms from day one.
The reveal trailer and gameplay footage shown onstage gave fans their first real look at what the game has in store. Players will be able to fly the Highwind airship and use it to travel across the world, and can even jump off it to land directly in the open world below. The footage also showed visits to classic locations from the original game, including Wutai.
Two fan-favorite characters who were not playable in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are now confirmed to join the roster: Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind. Both will be playable in combat. The game also introduces what is being called the “fit” system, a feature that lets players equip special armors that change both their character’s stats and appearance. Vincent’s voice actor Matt Mercer, who was present at the event, jokingly referred to it by that name.

The announcement wraps up a series that has been in development over many years. Final Fantasy VII Remake launched in 2020, covering the Midgar section of the original story. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth followed in 2024, expanding the adventure into a large open world and introducing the in-game card game Queen’s Blood. Revelation will bring that story to its conclusion.
