Chinese developer Genigods Lab has revealed Genigods: Nezha, a new single-player action RPG inspired by ancient Chinese mythology. The game is set to launch in 2028 for PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam and Epic Games Store. Built with Unreal Engine 5 and optimized for PlayStation, Genigods: Nezha aims to bring classic Chinese mythological tales into an interactive format where players directly experience legendary events rather than simply observing them.
Players take on the role of the Spirit Pearl, the first life created by Nuwa, the Goddess of Life, who is reborn as Nezha. The game is set during a time of chaos after Pangu, the Genesis God, falls into an eternal sleep. The world faces multiple crises: ten suns scorching the land, gods at war, and monsters emerging from the abyss.
At the core of the story is the “Heart of the Spirit Pearl,” a divine water-infused heart that serves as both companion and power source. Players must complete three main objectives: repair the broken sky using Five-Colored Stones, discover the truth about their origins, and seal spacetime rifts in the Abyss of Return.
The combat system features several unique mechanics. Players can switch between ground and aerial combat through the Dual Stances system, using Nezha’s Fire-Tipped Spear on land and Wind Fire Wheels in the air. The Fluidmystic ability lets players activate temporary powers and enhance weapons with sacred water for stronger effects. The Relic: Fusion system allows combining mythic items for special skills, such as pairing Hou Yi’s Bow with Three Heads and Six Arms for powerful archery attacks.

Boss battles include fights against Colossal Gods, where players climb massive divine beings and use their bodies as part of the battlefield. One notable sequence involves scaling the Sun Tree with the giant Kuafu to shoot down nine suns.
The game’s combat philosophy draws from Bruce Lee’s “Be Water” concept and incorporates Jeet Kune Do-inspired techniques. Players can use focused water attacks like the One-Inch Flash to break armor or the Dragon’s Kick for controlling groups of enemies.
