SEGA has officially signed on as an Official Supplier for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, with its action-puzzle game Puyo Puyo Champions selected as one of the event’s official esports titles.
The 20th Asian Games will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, the first time the country has hosted the event in 32 years. Competitions will take place at Aichi Sky Expo Hall D in Tokoname, Aichi. Esports events are scheduled to run from September 23 to October 2, 2026.
Esports returns as an official medal event at these Games, continuing from the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou. This edition will feature 11 disciplines across 13 titles, and Puyo Puyo Champions will be making its first-ever appearance at the Asian Games among them. SEGA’s sponsorship falls under the esports games category, with the contract running through December 31, 2026.
Ahead of the competition, YUUKI has been named as Japan’s national team candidate for Puyo Puyo Champions. The Tokyo-born player is just 10 years old and already carries an impressive competitive record. YUUKI was recommended by the Japan eSports Union (JESU), and the selection still needs final approval from the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), which holds the authority over the decision.
SEGA has been building its esports footprint since 2018, when both the Puyo Puyo and Virtua Fighter series received official esports title certification from JESU. Since then, the company has held tournaments for both franchises across Japan and internationally.
