SEGA has unveiled the official logo marking the 30th anniversary of Sakura Wars, one of its long-running game franchises. The company has also confirmed that details on anniversary merchandise will be shared as they become available.
Sakura Wars was created by Oji Hiroi and first launched in 1996 on the Sega Saturn. The series stands out for blending tactical RPG combat with visual novel storytelling and dating-sim mechanics — a combination that helped it carve out its own identity among Sega’s lineup.

The games are set in a fictionalized version of Japan’s Taishō era, where groups of women with spiritual powers are recruited to defend the world using steam-powered mechs. Over the years, the franchise grew well beyond its video game roots, branching out into sequels, spin-offs, anime adaptations, and even live stage productions.
Early entries in the series were developed by Sega in partnership with Red Entertainment. After the last mainline release in that run, the series went on hiatus in 2008. It eventually made a comeback with a reboot developed solely by Sega, with fan demand playing a role in bringing the series back.
With the logo now officially out, the 30th anniversary is underway. Further announcements, particularly around merchandise, are expected to follow in the coming months.
