Warner Bros. Games has announced the closure of three development studios: Monolith Productions (known for the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War games), Player First Games (developer of MultiVersus), and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. Additionally, the company has canceled development on the Wonder Woman game that was announced in 2021.
In a statement shared via Kotaku’s Ethan Gach, Warner Bros. Games explained that these decisions are part of a strategic restructuring to focus on key franchises including Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones.
“We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises,” the statement reads. “This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.”
Regarding the Wonder Woman game cancellation, the company stated: “Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities.” Additionally, the statement acknowledged Monolith’s “storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games.”

This announcement comes after a series of challenges for Warner Bros. Games. In January, the company announced that Season 5 of MultiVersus would be its last, with the game shutting down on May 30. Bloomberg had previously reported that the Wonder Woman game was years away from release after being rebooted in 2024.
Moreover, the restructuring follows the departure of Warner Bros. Interactive president David Haddad, who left his position after 12 years with the division, as confirmed by the company in January.
