HoYoverse has officially announced that Version 2.8 of Zenless Zone Zero, titled New: Eridan Sunset, will launch on May 6. The update serves as the final chapter of Season 2 and introduces major story developments, new playable characters, fresh combat systems, events, and quality-of-life improvements.
Alongside the update reveal, HoYoverse also confirmed that a Steam version of Zenless Zone Zero is on the way in the near future. Players will be able to carry over their progress through cross-platform data compatibility.
Season 2 Finale Brings Major Story Developments

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.8 pushes the Outer Ring storyline toward its climax. The mysterious figure Ramiel becomes the target of multiple factions, creating chaos across the region. As tensions rise, Promeia enters the story as an intelligence contact and temporary ally.
She joins forces with Starlight – Billy, the Proxies, and Cissia to uncover Ramiel’s identity and motives. HoYoverse has teased unexpected twists during the investigation, including new risks and possible powers that may shape future chapters of the game.
For players following the narrative closely, this update appears set to deliver one of the most important turning points yet.
New Playable Characters Promeia and Starlight – Billy
Version 2.8 introduces two new S-Rank agents to the roster.

Promeia is an Ice Anomaly specialist and the feared executioner of Krampus. Her abilities focus on triggering powerful Abloom effects by consuming Trial by Cold, while her EX Special Attack enables Bound Absolution, allowing automatic Perfect Dodges under pressure. She also boosts Abloom damage when paired with Anomaly or Support allies.

Starlight – Billy is Billy Kid’s upgraded combat form and comes equipped with a motorcycle and his signature Starlight Knight kick attacks. He is a Physical Rupture agent built for burst damage, with several skills restoring Health while converting Physical damage into Sheer damage output.
Both characters debut alongside reruns for Lucia and Orphie & Magus.
New Wind Mechanics and Limited-Time Events

The update also introduces a new Wind attribute enemy type and the Vortex combat mechanic. When Wind Anomaly is applied, adding another elemental anomaly can trigger Vortex instead of Disorder, dealing area damage based on the second element. This system adds more strategy to team building and combat rotations.
Several new events are also planned. Marcel Bootopia lets players explore a Bangboo resort island using Eous, rescue trapped Bangboos, and collect treasure. Completing the event rewards players with Booltergeist, an A-Rank Bangboo companion that attacks with lasers.
Another featured event, Ultimate Verdict Trial, allows players to battle alongside Promeia while earning Polychrome rewards.
New Outfit and System Improvements

Players can also purchase a new cosmetic outfit for Hoshimi Miyabi called Dignified Blossom, inspired by the classic Hoshimi family style.
On the technical side, HoYoverse is adding a new Polychrome Guide to help players track limited-time rewards. Resource and storage management are also being improved, including a new auto-delete feature.
Steam Version and Soundtrack Vinyl Announced

HoYoverse additionally confirmed that the official soundtrack vinyl collection for Zenless Zone Zero will open for pre-orders on April 29 through Laced Records. The set includes in-game music and character themes in physical format.
Platforms
Zenless Zone Zero is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via standalone client and Epic Games Store, plus iOS and Android devices.
With new characters, major story payoffs, and a Steam release on the horizon, Version 2.8 looks set to be one of the biggest updates yet for the urban fantasy action role-playing game.
