Bungie will open the gates to Tau Ceti IV with the upcoming Marathon Server Slam, an open preview weekend running from February 27, to March 3. The event gives players around the world early access ahead of the game’s full launch on March 5. Unlike a traditional beta, however, this event focuses on testing the game’s global infrastructure at scale.
The Server Slam serves as a large-scale technical stress test. Bungie will activate servers worldwide and closely monitor performance as players log in, form crews, infil into zones, extract with loot, and repeat the cycle. Because of this objective, players should expect login queues during peak hours, possible disconnects, error codes, and even short-notice maintenance. Bungie’s development and network teams will remain on standby throughout the weekend to gather data and resolve issues in real time, ensuring a smoother launch experience.
What Players Can Access During Server Slam

The Server Slam offers a curated slice of Marathon’s launch content rather than the complete experience. During the preview, players can infil into two zones on Tau Ceti IV: Perimeter, an expansion site located on the colony’s outskirts, and Dire Marsh, the colony’s agricultural research hub. These areas provide an early look at the environmental hazards, combat encounters, and extraction-based gameplay loops that define Marathon.

In addition, players can take on early contracts for five factions—CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, and Arachne—while progressing through the opening levels of each faction’s upgrade tree. The preview also allows players to experiment with five of the six Runner shells available at launch, along with Rook, the scavenger-focused shell. Players may enter solo, deploy as a coordinated Crew, or form temporary alliances using proximity chat, adding a dynamic social layer to each run. However, Bungie will introduce late-game zones such as Outpost and Cryo Archive, Ranked mode, the sixth Runner shell Thief, and deeper progression systems at full launch and during Season 1.
Launch Rewards for Participants

Players who complete the introductory mission during the Server Slam will unlock exclusive cosmetic rewards for launch, including the Beta.exe emblem and the Complex Study player background. These items will identify participants as part of Marathon’s first wave.
Moreover, progression during the weekend will bank tiered Arrival Caches that Bungie will deliver at launch. Players who complete their first mission will earn the Standard Arrival Cache. Reaching Runner Level 10 unlocks the Enhanced Arrival Cache, while reaching Runner Level 30 grants the Deluxe Arrival Cache. These packages contain implants, Runner shell cores, weapon mods, upgraded weapons, and additional gear designed to accelerate early progression once the full game goes live.
Twitch Drops and Cross-Platform Support

Beyond gameplay participation, viewers can also secure rewards. By linking Bungie and Twitch accounts and watching Marathon streams during the Server Slam window, players can earn cosmetic Twitch Drops. These include emblems, profile backgrounds, weapon stickers, and a weapon skin that Bungie will distribute at launch.
The Marathon Server Slam supports full cross-play and cross-save across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Console players will not need an online subscription service to access the preview weekend, although the full launch version will require an active subscription for online play.

With servers preparing to go live, Bungie is inviting players to stress the system, earn launch rewards, and experience Tau Ceti IV ahead of release. The real question now is simple: when the doors open, will you survive the run?
