Fans clamoring for more Guilty Gear Strive following its recent delay could be getting a second beta ahead of its new release date.

AnimeFGC News via VG24/7 reports that at a New Game Plus Expo panel, Arc System Works discussed the possibility of holding a second Open Beta to let fans try out the improvements to Guilty Gear Strive before its launch.

Unlike with the first beta, this second delay of the game actually had little to do with the game’s gameplay. Many fans were upset with the game’s lobby system, which was bizarrely obtuse and prone to errors that lead to long loading times.

There was also a lack of a quick rematch button, making the fighting-game-etiquette of doing a best-of-three matches much more difficult when compounded with the lobby’s flaws.

Between the first closed beta and the recent Open Beta, Arc System Works had implemented Rollback Netcode, allowing for smoother online play over long distances, a decision that’s been made with universal praise. It’s now the second Guilty Gear game to have implemented the netcode, after Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R.

At that same panel, Arc System Works explained that they were also looking into implementing rollback in more of their games, which would allow for many more tournaments due to more stable net play.

Since the game’s been delayed, Arc System Works also put out new gameplay for the recently announced characters who were absent for the beta, I-No and Anji. Fan reception has been generally that of excitement, as both retain their play styles from their previous iterations such as I-No’s deadly crossups and Anji’s long-range play.

Guilty Gear Strive’s current release date is June 11th, 2021.
