Konami has unveiled Rhapsody in Scarlet during PlayStation’s State of Play on September 3, showcasing a beautiful 1920s New York with jazz-filled streets. The stylish setting is mixed with magic and mystical beasts, creating a unique combination of fantasy and reality.

The reveal trailer followed Ellye Myers, a young magus who arrives in New York to chase her dreams as a jazz singer. Her aspirations were cut short, however, as she gets caught up in a conflict between secret magic users and a mafia organization.

Aside from the unique setting, one of Rhapsody in Scarlet’s biggest highlights is its stylish combat, which involves customizable combos consisting of both magical abilities and traditional weapon-based fighting. The trailer also gave us a glimpse of Ellie’s beast companion Sköll, who also offers a myriad of powerful attacks.

Combining both weapons, magic, and Sköll’s attacks makes for a satisfying button-mashing experience. Furthermore, we saw that they offer a mix of close- and long-range attacks as well as area-of-effect damage, forcing players to get creative.

The announcement trailer also showed action set pieces. One section showed Ellie riding Sköll as they’re being chased by a gigantic monster across the streets of old-school New York.

A story trailer was also revealed, which introduced another character, Ilya Jones, the young leader of the Seekers, a magus organization. She and Ellie have opposing personalities and clash at times, but gradually develop a stronger bond as they fight together.

Although both trailers showed at the end that it’s being developed for the PlayStation 5, the game is also planned for PC and Xbox Series X|S. No release date has been announced yet, but players can wishlist the game now. Konami also promises to reveal more details regarding the game at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2026.
