A live-action adaptation of Elden Ring will premiere on March 3, 2028, publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment and production studio A24 have confirmed. The companies also revealed the film’s full cast and confirmed that the production will target IMAX theaters. As a result, the project now stands among the most ambitious video game adaptations currently in development.
Production begins in spring 2026. Therefore, the film has officially entered its main production phase.
Alex Garland Leads the Adaptation With Original Creators Involved

Director Alex Garland writes and directs the film adaptation. He previously directed Ex Machina and Civil War. His involvement signals a strong auteur-driven approach to the project.
Meanwhile, developer FromSoftware supports the adaptation through its original creative leadership. Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki helped shape the source material. In addition, author George R. R. Martin contributed the game’s mythological worldbuilding and also joins the production team.

The film is produced by A24 alongside DNA Films and Bandai Namco Filmworks. Reports indicate the budget exceeds USD $100 million (approximately MYR 473 million). Therefore, the project clearly targets large-scale theatrical impact.
Full Ensemble Cast Revealed Ahead of Filming

The film stars Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, and Ben Whishaw in leading roles. Additionally, the cast includes Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Together, this lineup suggests the story will explore multiple characters across the Lands Between. As a result, the film may follow several intersecting storylines instead of a single hero’s journey.
Filming Takes Place in the United Kingdom and Iceland

Production begins in April 2026 across locations in the United Kingdom, including Scotland. Later, the team will continue filming in Iceland during summer.
These locations match the dramatic landscapes seen in the original game. Therefore, the filmmakers appear to prioritize real-world environments alongside visual effects support. Filming will run for roughly 100 days, which reflects the project’s scale.
A Dark Fantasy Story Set in the Lands Between

The film adapts the world of Elden Ring, which launched in 2022 and sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. In the story, a shattered Elden Ring leaves the Lands Between divided among corrupted demigods.
Players originally followed a Tarnished exile who traveled across the realm to restore the Elden Ring and claim the title of Elden Lord. Similarly, the film is expected to explore this central conflict while expanding the setting for a cinematic audience.

Overall, with production underway and a confirmed IMAX release date, the Elden Ring live-action adaptation represents one of the most high-profile collaborations yet between the film industry and modern action role-playing games.
