Aiming for students and education customers, Acer has recently announced its first 12-inch Chromebooks, the Acer Chromebook Spin 512 and Acer Chromebook 512. The new Chromebooks feature a 3:2 aspect ratio display, offering more vertical space compared to the usual 16:9 display. As result, you can easily view more content in a single viewing. The 12-inch HD+ displays feature 1366 x 912 resolution and IPS4 technology.
Powered by up to a quad-core Intel Pentium Silver N5000 Processor or a quad-core Intel Celeron N4100 Processor, the Chromebooks provides extra performance at lesser power usage. A variant of Acer Chromebook 512 offering a dual-core Intel Celeron N4000 processor will be available as well. Both of the new Chromebooks provide long battery life up to 12 hours, enough for several days of usage.
Chromebook Spin 512 features an 8MP world-facing webcam on the cover, while the clamshell version has an optional 5MP so you can capture high-quality images or videos. Also, you can connect with others during video chats and Google Hangouts with the Acer HD webcam located above the display. Both the models are sturdy and safe for young students – they are compliant with stringent U.S. Military Standard (MIL-STD 810G) and two toy safety standards including ASTM F963-16 and UL/IED 60950-1.
The Acer Chromebook 512 can be opened a full 180 degrees, along with mechanically anchored keys that are both difficult to remove and easy to replace. Meanwhile, the Acer Chromebook Spin 512 has hinges that open a full 360-degrees, enabling 4 different usage modes – clamshell, tablet, display and tent. Chromebook Spin 512 comes with a dockable Wacom EMR stylus too.
You will be able to try out the new Chromebooks at Acer’s booth during the BETT show in London from January 23 to 26. They will be available with either 32 / 64 eMMC storage and 4 / 8GB of RAM to education and commercial customers in Q2, in EMEA and North America.
