The director of Monster Hunter Wilds, Yuya Tokuda, has asked players who found the game too easy to give it another shot. He highlighted recent updates that introduce more challenging missions for veteran hunters.

Difficulty Adjustments for New and Veteran Players
Tokuda spoke during a media session at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2025 Japan Asia. During the interview, he addressed questions about the game’s difficulty. According to IGN, the team intentionally made Monster Hunter Wilds more approachable for newcomers. This decision, however, left some longtime fans feeling underwhelmed.

“We analyzed where beginners struggled, including in Monster Hunter: World,” Tokuda explained. “We improved these points so new players could reach monsters and craft armor more easily. Additionally, we introduced features like Focus Mode, which benefit both new and experienced players. Even so, the difficulty curve may have been too gentle for veteran hunters.”
Encouraging Players to Return

The team has addressed this issue through content updates that add harder challenges. Tokuda directly appealed to lapsed players: “If you beat the game immediately after release and stopped playing, I would appreciate it if you could pick it up again.”
Sales Success and Decline
Despite mixed reception on difficulty, Monster Hunter Wilds launched strongly, breaking Capcom’s launch record with 10 million copies sold in its first month. However, sales have fallen sharply. Capcom reported 160,000 units sold in the three months ending September 30.

This drop followed 477,000 units in the previous quarter and contributed to a decline in the company’s stock price. While Wilds had a remarkable debut, its post-launch decline stands in contrast to 2018’s Monster Hunter: World, which has sold 28 million copies over time.
A Call to the Hunting Community

With tougher content now available, Tokuda hopes veteran players will return. He wants them to experience more rewarding battles. Returning hunters can tackle new challenges and enjoy gameplay that balances accessibility with higher difficulty. For more updates on the game, follow their official X account.
