As Chrono Trigger celebrates its 30th anniversary with multiple special projects from Square Enix, fans are wondering if something bigger might be coming for the beloved RPG. When asked directly about future plans, series supervisor and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii gave responses that have sparked curiousity among the game’s community.
The topic came up during Horii’s “KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku” talk show livestream. The show’s interviewer mentioned the recent attention around Chrono Trigger and asked if it was “foreshadowing” something new. Former Shonen Jump editor Kazuhiko Torishima, a regular guest on the show, pointed to several recent Chrono Trigger activities, including character popularity polls and orchestral concerts scheduled for 2026.

When Torishima asked Horii if any developments would follow these anniversary celebrations, Horii responded, “I can’t talk about that.” He quickly became flustered and added several comments in rapid succession: “Wait, if I say that, you’ll figure it out!,” “Don’t ask!,” “Asking is off-limits!,” and “I’ll get in trouble!” The panel laughed and moved on to other topics, though Torishima remarked “There’s something” before the conversation ended.
This year has seen numerous Chrono Trigger-related activities beyond the character polls and concerts. Square Enix has hosted official music livestreams, an art panel giveaway, a top 10 track poll, and released several arrangement albums.

Square Enix has not announced any remake or new entry in the Chrono Trigger franchise. What Yuji Horii said during the livestream has added to fan interest in the series’ future.
