The HyperX Pulsefire Haste very much lives up to its name, it hastily excels at the core qualities of a good mouse: fast, nimble, and doesn’t get stuck on its own cable. Combine that with an accessible amount of customizability and you’re getting a pretty solid package.
The mouse however is being released alongside the HyperX Pulsefire Mat, made specifically to work with it. It’s a large mat that gives your mouse a lot of room to roam and play, even if it’s a little rough around the edges. Overall though, for the asking price, it’s a pretty good combo for those that need a more versatile desktop setup.
Design
Admittedly, the Pulsefire Haste is a little plain at first glance: With just a plain white with a light pink base (although you can get it black as well), it doesn’t stand out much. What makes the mouse more unique is the Ultra-light hex shell design with holes at the front that reduce weight.
The overall weight of the mouse is 60g and the size is a Length: of 124.2mm x Height: of 38.2mm x Width: of 66.8mm. If you’ve got fairly wide hands, it’s pretty easy to grip and comfortable to slide across your desk.
The mouse is completely symmetrical with six buttons across it including left, right, middle, DPI, back, and forward buttons. All six buttons of them are programmable meaning you can change every function of the button using the NGenuity apps. This makes it very versatile, especially for gaming as you can map different functions to each button like clicking a button to switch to that one item as opposed to scrolling through two menus to get it.
In terms of wires, The Pulsefire Haste comes with a 1.8m USB cable that’s made from light, flexible paracord material designed to reduce tension making for easier mouse movement. As someone whose biggest pet peeve with cables is how easily they can snag on things, I really appreciated how flexible this was, almost as if there wasn’t a cable in the first place.
Finally, there’s the RGB lighting, and it’s barely there, just a small light in the middle mouse button. A little disappointing for those that like their RGBs but I can’t imagine that many people are looking to their mouse to give them gaming lights so I’m mostly ok with it.
Switch & Sensor
Another important part of any mouse is to move the cursor and give a satisfying click, that is what we use them for after all. Thankfully, the Pulsefire Haste does deliver. It comes with TTC Golden micro dust proof switches that provide a satisfying sound and feel and you click down on them, ensuring that your command has gone through.
As for cursor control, the sensor that comes with the mouse gives you a nice balance between weight and performance. It can detect up to 16000 DPI with its Pixart 3335 sensor making it reliably responsive. Combine that with the pure virgin-grade PTFE skates and your mouse will practically be Mickey On Ice. For all the bells and whistles that many modern gaming mice have, it’s good that the Pulsefire has the practical essentials down.
NGenuity
NGenuity is the core software app that can be used to customize The Pulsefire Haste. There are a lot of settings you can play with such as changing the RGB lights to a range of different colors, changing the DPI speed so it doesn’t zoom or drag too much, and changing the function of your mouse buttons which can be mapped to most keys. It allows the mouse to be more versatile and better suits the specific users’ needs.
For both the mouse and the mat, you can also select a number of effects for the RGB including solid, cycle, wave, and breathing. I usually prefer my RGBs to remain solid (it’s too distracting otherwise) but for those that want a little extra pizzaz while they play, you’ve got a lot of options.
HyperX Pulsefire Mat
Of course, the Pulsefire Haste also comes with the Pulsefire Mat. There’s not much to say about the mat but it’s still a solid addition to the bundle.
I think the most important aspect of a mousepad is space, they should give you a lot of space to roam around with your mouse and the Pulsefire Mat certainly gives you a lot of space. The size of the Mat is XL with a Width of 900mm x Length: of 420mm x Thickness: of 4mm. That’s almost the length of an entire desk to move around on. I could see it being a little annoying if you want to put other things on your desk but as a gaming mouse mat, the extra space is highly welcomed.
Another issue with the mat is that it does feel a little rough to touch. It’s made of a densely woven cloth surface which while great for the mouse, can be a little irritating to rest your arms on. I suppose it keeps you alert in the middle of a game but I doubt everyone is that hardcore so consider keeping a wrist rest nearby.
It also has two-zone RGB. One will start from the top left and end at the bottom right and the other goes vice versa. With the immense size of the mat, it does sort of light up your table creating a fairly cool effect while gaming. The color of the map can also be changed with the NGenuity map giving it a fair amount of customizability.
Verdict
The HyperX Pulsefire Haste is a great ultra-lightweight mouse. It lacks the flashiness some may want from a gaming mouse, but it has all the practical qualities you’d need from a good mouse, it’s lightweight, comfortable, and features a good amount of customization. It’s well suited for use whether it’d be gaming or just everyday work.
The Pulsefire Mat likewise is a solid accessory. While it’s a little annoying how rough the surface is, I can’t deny that it works well with the intended mouse and ultimately gets the job done.
Overall, The Pulsefire Haste and Pulsefire Mat are great combos to have. You can get the gaming mouse for just RM299 and RGB mouse pad for RM219 which is pretty affordable for both products. At the very least, if you’re searching for an ultra-lightweight gaming mouse, I’d recommend the Pulsfire Haste for its great practicality and customizability to suit your own playstyle.
