Nihon Falcom’s latest remake has hit a major milestone on Steam. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, which launched on September 19, now holds the record as the developer’s most successful Steam release based on player numbers. The game is a full 3D remake of the 2004 turn-based RPG The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Since its release, it has attracted more players at once than any other Nihon Falcom game on the platform.
Steam offers two versions of the game. The global version supports Japanese, English, French, German, and Spanish languages. The Asian version only includes Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean, plus the original Japanese voice acting. Both versions have earned “Overwhelmingly Positive” ratings from Steam users, with over 90% of reviews being positive.

The Asian version appears to be more popular despite having fewer language options. According to SteamDB, it reached a peak of 14,295 players online at the same time, compared to the global version’s 4,874 players. The Asian version also has 1,498 user reviews, which is more than double the global version’s 603 reviews.
Most reviews for the Asian version are written in Chinese, suggesting the game has found strong support in Chinese-speaking regions. When both versions are combined, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter reached an all-time peak of 19,169 players online together.

Players have praised the remake for upgrading the original game’s graphics and gameplay while keeping the story unchanged. The developers added new features like fast travel and a more active battle system, but the core writing from The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky stays the same throughout.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is currently available on PC through Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. Players can also get a Nintendo Switch 2 edition through an Upgrade Pack for $1.00 USD.
