Publisher refint/games revealed new details for Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga Remaster, highlighting the big upgrades coming to PC and consoles. The 2010 PSP crossover is getting a fresh look and faster performance ahead of its global launch.
A Complete Visual Overhaul

The remaster delivers sharper visuals across the board. The developers redrew or re-exported nearly every UI element at 4K resolution. They also recaptured map previews, making menus look as sharp as the in-game graphics.
For in-game assets, the team sourced the best versions from PC builds, high-resolution project files, and lossless PSP data. They then upscaled these textures with modern tools and touched up many of them by hand. The result is a game that feels polished and vibrant while keeping Falcom’s signature style intact.
Smoother Performance Across Platforms

Performance received just as much attention as visuals. The game now runs at 60FPS on every platform, doubling the original PSP’s 30FPS. To make this work, the developers rebalanced gameplay logic so combat still feels authentic. The higher frame rate also makes online battles smoother and more responsive, which is vital for competitive play.
PC users gain even more options. The remaster supports arbitrary resolutions and multiple aspect ratios, including ultrawide 21:9 displays. Narrower formats like 5:4 and 16:10 also work, and the team tested the game on Steam Deck. While most cutscenes remain locked at 16:9, the actual gameplay adjusts to fit each display.
Extra Technical Enhancements

The remaster goes beyond basic polish. The developers removed the PSP’s old draw distance limits, so objects no longer fade out. Players can also enable anti-aliasing up to 8x MSAA, FXAA, and anisotropic filtering. The team even reworked several 3D assets, fixing mirrored textures and stiff animations that looked worse at higher resolutions. These changes make the game feel consistent on modern hardware.
About the Game

Falcom originally launched Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga for PSP in 2010. The crossover brought together characters from the Ys series and the Trails in the Sky trilogy. It also gave fans one of the first appearances of Lloyd Bannings from the Trails Crossbell arc.
The combat builds on the fast-paced style of Ys SEVEN, now with jumping mechanics that speed up fights even more. The remaster supports both couch and online multiplayer with rollback netcode. Players will also see several quality-of-life updates such as mouse and keyboard support on PC, more display settings, and a Material Collection mode that unlocks wallpapers, music, and other extras from Falcom’s history.
Release Date
Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga Remaster launches digitally on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. Limited Run Games will also handle the physical release.
