SEGA Sets September Dates for Crazy Taxi: World Tour Multiplayer Test

SEGA has announced a closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, giving players an early chance to try the game’s online multiplayer modes before launch. The test will run on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC from September 11 at 5:00 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. ET) through September 13 at 5:00 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. ET).

Players who want to join can sign up now through the official SEGA website. Sign-ups close on August 31 at 11:59 p.m. PT (September 1 at 2:59 a.m. ET), and SEGA notes that spots are limited to select regions around the world.

Unlike the full retail release, which will include single-player and story content, the closed test will focus only on online multiplayer. Two modes will be available: Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies. Both can be played through Ranked Match or Custom Match, with the custom option letting players set up their own lobbies and rules. In Pickup Race, up to six players compete to pick up and drop off as many passengers as possible before time runs out, earning money along the way. In Cops ‘N’ Cabbies, players are split into two teams of three that go head-to-head.

During the test, players will have access to two maps, four characters, and six cars, with tune-up options available for each vehicle. SEGA says the main goal of the test is to check the stability of the online systems ahead of launch, and it will also check cross-play between Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, and Steam.

Alongside the announcement, SEGA also released a new trailer showing off the game’s West Coast map, a location well known to longtime fans of the series. The map continues the series’ tradition of featuring real-world stores and brands, with IHOP and Amoeba Music confirmed as part of the West Coast setting. SEGA says more storefronts will be revealed as additional World Tour maps are shown off.
