Detention has never looked this wild. D3Publisher and Yuke’s will launch Full Metal Schoolgirl, a roguelike action game, on 23rd October 2025 for PlayStation 5. The game mixes over-the-top melee combat, 90s anime flair, and a skyscraper packed with enemies. Because of this, it promises to bring back personality to a genre that some players feel has gone stale.
A Cyborg Schoolgirl Revolution

The story pits players against Meternal Jobz, the world’s largest corporation. Its army of “Working Dead”—cyborg slaves forced to fight even after death—guards a 100-floor skyscraper. To reach the top, you must slash through waves of enemies, dodge traps, and adapt to layouts that change with every run.

Producer Nobuyuki Okajima explained on the PlayStation Blog that losing means starting from scratch. When you fall, all weapons and gear disappear, and the climb restarts from the first floor. However, livestream earnings and collected materials stay with you. These rewards allow you to fund permanent upgrades, ensuring your Machine Girl grows stronger after each attempt.
Combat With Style
Combat blends the melee action of Onechanbara with the chaotic gunplay of Earth Defense Force. Players will experiment with more than 100 weapons, offering plenty of variety as they climb the skyscraper.

In addition, progression ties directly into in-game livestreams. As your schoolgirl fights through Meternal’s drones, viewers shower her with cash. You can then invest that money into upgrades and enhancements, creating a clever mix of anime energy and internet culture.
Old-School Anime Vibes

Visually, Full Metal Schoolgirl fully embraces its 90s anime aesthetic. Exaggerated character designs, flashy attack animations, and slapstick humour fuel its distinct personality. Although the second trailer doesn’t reveal new mechanics, it highlights the quirky humour and frantic energy that set the game apart. As a result, it builds anticipation without giving too much away.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Digital Deluxe Edition

Pre-orders opened on 2nd July. Players who purchase early unlock a pair of Onechanbara-inspired costumes. Meanwhile, the Digital Deluxe Edition adds an exclusive “Now I’m Pissed” cat accessory in three different colours. On top of that, PS Plus subscribers can secure the game at a 10% discount.

Full Metal Schoolgirl launches on 23rd October 2025 for PlayStation 5. With its roguelike trial-and-error design, scrappy humour, and retro anime vibe, the game has plenty of charm. The only question left is whether the gameplay loop feels as sharp as the presentation. Visit the game’s official website to pre-order and get more updates on the game.
