Ueni Trading Co., Ltd. has announced that its character-collaboration brand GARRACK will release a Japan-made mechanical watch inspired by Ghost in the Shell. The new timepiece, called the Fuchikoma Model, opens for pre-order on July 17, 2026, with general sales starting July 31, 2026. The watch stands out for its dial, which is finished entirely by hand using raden, a traditional Japanese craft that inlays thin pieces of mother-of-pearl into lacquer.
The dial shows the Fuchikoma, a vehicle from Ghost in the Shell, viewed from the front and recreated using the mother-of-pearl technique. In the story, Fuchikoma are AI-controlled think tanks used by the main unit. They can be piloted by squad members or move on their own, and come equipped with thermal-optical camouflage and wire launchers. The watch borrows several design details from the character. The hour markers are shaped after the Fuchikoma’s wheels, and the hands are designed to resemble its arms. An open-heart aperture near the right side of the dial represents the Fuchikoma’s manipulator in motion.

The raden work was done by Takeshi Musashigawa, a fourth-generation artisan at Musashigawa Studio, a workshop founded in 1910 in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. Takaoka is known for a specific style of raden called aogai-nuri, where thin shell pieces, shaved down to about 0.1 millimeters, are set against black lacquer so the shell appears to glow blue. This method is part of Takaoka lacquerware, a nationally recognized traditional craft in Japan. Musashigawa said the Fuchikoma design was one of the more difficult pieces he has worked on, due to the level of detail involved.

Beyond the dial, the watch has a few other notable features. It uses an automatic MIYOTA movement and comes in a stainless steel case measuring 42 by 42 millimeters. The strap is leather, and the case back is see-through, displaying the Ghost in the Shell logo. The watch is water-resistant up to 5 ATM, or about 50 meters, and is manufactured entirely in Japan.
The Fuchikoma Model is officially listed as the Ghost in the Shell S-MEISTER Mechanical Watch, reference number SMS-KK-42-FK. It is priced at 79,200 Japanese yen, tax included, which comes to roughly 490 US dollars. For fans of the franchise and collectors interested in traditional Japanese craftsmanship, the Fuchikoma Model offers a rare combination of pop culture design and centuries-old technique in a single, limited-run timepiece.
