Capcom says the Switch 2 version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is turning out better than the team originally thought it would. Producer Naoto Oyama shared the update in an interview with Eurogamer, ahead of the game’s release on the platform this October. The Switch 2 version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 launches on October 9, alongside a new DLC expansion called Dark Arisen. The same expansion will also come to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on that date.

Oyama explained that while working on Dark Arisen, the team has also been trying to boost the performance of the existing PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. Those improvements ended up helping the Switch 2 version too. According to Oyama, small performance tweaks are being made across the board to help Performance Mode on consoles hit 60fps, and that work is planned to arrive in a title update in late August.

“That means that, commensurately, all that effort we’ve put into the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game also pays off in the Switch 2 version, and we’re currently seeing a minimum 30fps performance on that hardware, and in many scenes it’s even higher,” Oyama said. “So it’s a little while to go until the game releases, but it’s exceeding our expectations on Switch 2, and I hope the players agree that we’ve done a great job again with bringing this game to that platform.”

Oyama also spoke about how well Capcom’s RE Engine runs on Switch 2 in general. The console has already received several RE Engine games, including Street Fighter 6, Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, all of which have performed well despite Switch 2 being less powerful than PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on paper.

“The RE engine, which we’re developing our games on now, is something that has actually been a really great fit for Nintendo Switch 2,” he said. “We’ve had some really well-received Nintendo Switch 2 versions of major titles, such as Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem this year, and because this is an internal engine, we’ve been able to accumulate knowledge and know-how from other teams.”

He added that improvements and new features added to the engine with each game carry over to future titles, which he described as a positive cycle for the studio.  With Dark Arisen and the performance update both due in the coming months, players on all platforms will soon get to see how these changes hold up once the game is in their hands.
