Publisher Good Smile Company and developer Chime Corporation have announced PATLABOR the Case Files, a new 3D action game coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The game is based on the classic anime and manga series Mobile Police Patlabor, which follows a special police unit that uses giant robots called Labors to deal with robot-related crimes in a near-future Tokyo. No pricing or launch window has been announced at this time.

Several key figures from the original franchise are involved in the project. Yutaka Izubuchi returns as mechanical supervisor, Kazunori Itou as script supervisor, and Akemi Takada as character art supervisor — all of whom worked on the original series.
The game features two ways to play through the story. “Main Missions” puts players in the role of Special Vehicle Section 2, the patrol unit at the center of the series. “Another Side Missions” flips things around, letting players take on the role of their enemies instead. More than 20 Labors are included in the game’s roster, ranging from the iconic Ingram to the Griffon and Type Zero.

There is also a “Simulator Mode” for players who want to practice shooting or take part in Labor-versus-Labor battles outside of the main story. The game’s story follows the premise of the original series — Labors, robots originally built for industrial work, have become tools for crime, pushing the Metropolitan Police Department to create a dedicated patrol unit to handle the threat.
