IO Interactive has confirmed that the Hitman series isn’t going anywhere, even as the studio prepares to launch its James Bond game, 007 First Light.
In a recent interview with Variety, IO Interactive head Hakan Abrak reassured fans that more Hitman games are definitely coming. “Of course, there’s going to be a next Hitman,” Abrak stated, though he didn’t specify exactly when.
Before the next main Hitman game arrives, the studio is working on a co-op mode for the series. Abrak explained that fans can expect more information about this co-op addition after getting through this year and into next year. He described co-op as “a really, really good extension to the universe” that will bring interesting new gameplay combinations to World of Assassination.
The co-op mode will feature two characters named Stone and Knight, who previously appeared in Hitman Sniper. Players will be able to tackle exciting missions from the Hitman world with a friend, with the mode challenging them to rethink their usual strategies when working as a team.
Beyond Hitman and 007 First Light, IO Interactive is also developing a multiplayer fantasy game currently known as Project Fantasy. Abrak called this unannounced project “extremely ambitious and really cool,” noting it’s something different from the studio’s typical “gun in a suit” style.
007 First Light is scheduled to release on March 27 next year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.
