Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest X Online version 8.0 will launch in Japan on June 25, 2026. Officially titled Dragon Quest X Online: Stray Children of Space and Time, the expansion will release on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The standalone expansion will cost 4,950 yen(approximately RM160).
Although Dragon Quest X Online remains exclusive to Japan, Square Enix continues to support the MMORPG with large-scale expansions. As a result, the game has maintained a strong and active player base for more than a decade. Version 8.0 represents the next major chapter in that long-running journey.
Stray Children of Space and Time Pushes the Story Forward

This new expansion introduces a completely original story arc. Square Enix has confirmed the addition of new characters and fresh narrative content. While the company has not revealed specific plot details yet, the title strongly suggests themes related to time, space, and separation.
In previous expansions, Square Enix focused heavily on narrative progression rather than standalone side stories. Therefore, players can expect version 8.0 to continue directly from earlier events. At the same time, the new chapter aims to introduce conflicts that feel accessible to returning players who may have taken a break.
Spring Festival 2026 Will Reveal More Details
Further information about the expansion will arrive during the Dragon Quest X Spring Festival 2026. The event will take place on March 20 and March 21, 2026. Traditionally, these festivals serve as major announcement platforms for the game.
During past events, Square Enix showcased gameplay footage, story previews, and developer discussions. Consequently, players can expect clearer insight into the expansion’s setting, mechanics, and overall structure during the festival. Additional system updates or quality-of-life improvements may also be announced.
All-In-One Package Offers a Complete Experience

Alongside the standalone expansion, Square Enix will release the Dragon Quest X Online All-In-One Package Version 1–8. This bundle includes the base game and all previously released expansions. It will be priced at 5,940 yen (approximately RM190).
Because the price difference between the standalone expansion and the full bundle is relatively small, the all-in-one package presents strong value. New players can experience the entire story from the beginning. Meanwhile, returning players can catch up on missed content without purchasing each expansion separately.
Continued Promotion and Community Engagement
Square Enix has already launched an official website for the version 8.0 expansion. In addition, an archived broadcast of Super Dragon Quest X TV Extra Edition: Adventurers’ Christmas Special 2025 is now available. The broadcast celebrated the announcement and highlighted the game’s ongoing development.
Overall, Dragon Quest X Online: Stray Children of Space and Time reinforces Square Enix’s long-term commitment to the MMORPG. As the game approaches another major milestone, version 8.0 signals that the adventure is far from over.
