After the recent Kingdom Hearts 4 presentation at D23, gamers went back to the older titles to prepare for the much-anticipated sequel. More particularly, Steam saw a sudden surge in player count, with some games reaching new all-time concurrent highs.

Of course, it also helped that Square Enix is holding a massive franchise sale, where featured titles are discounted by 70%. Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX joined Steam’s list of best-selling games, joining the likes of Counter-Strike and Apex Legends.

Meanwhile, the collection altogether set a record of 11,152 concurrent players, and in the last 24 hours, over 9,600 people have put in their work in the game.  The recent presentation is also responsible for the sudden spike. During D23, developers revealed new gameplay footage, including one where players can take control of Donald and Goofy, as well as a platforming section with Mickey Mouse.

The reveal mainly focused on the world of Pixar’s Coco being added as one of the explorable worlds in Kingdom Hearts 4. Fans were also pleased to see the return of fan-favorite Riku, Sora’s lifelong friend/rival.

The beloved franchise is nearing its 25-year anniversary, and it’s nice to see old and new players are still going back to relive Sora’s adventures that spanned from 2002 to 2010. With the recent surge in player counts on Steam, it’s undeniable that the hype for Kingdom Hearts 4 is absolutely real.
