Dragon Quest VII Reimagined has quietly dropped Denuvo DRM from its PC version, according to the game’s Steam database page. Denuvo is a well-known third-party anti-tampering tool that’s often blamed for hurting game performance, so removing it should mean better stability and smoother running for PC players.
This isn’t new territory for Square Enix. The publisher has a track record of launching PC titles with Denuvo attached, only to strip it out a few months down the line, and that’s exactly what’s happened with Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. The game itself first came out on PlayStation before later making its way to Nintendo 3DS, and it’s considered one of the biggest entries in the Dragon Quest series in terms of scope. This reimagined version gives the game a handcrafted 3D look, drawing inspiration from real-world diorama models.
The story sticks closely to the original but comes with adjusted pacing, plus extra side quests and minigames for players who want more to do. As before, players will piece together fragments to unlock islands and uncover new areas to explore.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is currently available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store. With Denuvo now gone, PC players should notice a more stable experience going forward.
