Cygames has issued a public statement addressing player concerns following the recent announcement of its new AI subsidiary, Cygames AI Studio, which was revealed less than a week ago.
The Japanese game developer clarified that generative AI is not currently being used in any of its games, anime series, or other products. In the statement posted across the company’s social media accounts, Cygames emphasized that all artwork in their current titles comes from the manual work and expertise of their staff members.

However, the company stopped short of ruling out AI use entirely. According to the statement, Cygames “won’t implement generative AI into our products without prior notice,” meaning the door remains open for potential future use as long as users are informed beforehand.
The statement came after Cygames received criticism for its initial announcement of Cygames AI Studio. The subsidiary, which will operate separately from the main company, plans to develop its own AI model for game services and tools. The original announcement included several job listings but did not address ongoing debates about generative AI in creative industries.
In their response, Cygames apologized for releasing what they called a “simplified statement in Japanese” without acknowledging current discussions and concerns surrounding generative AI technology.
“We hold in the highest regard those who love games, as well as the dignity, passion, and heart of the creators and artists who act as the architects of gaming culture,” the company stated, adding that they will continue to “honor creators, as well as champion the free expression of people.”
Cygames recently released Umamusume: Pretty Derby worldwide and has announced plans to bring Granblue Fantasy to PC via Steam in 2026. The Steam version will be separate from existing Japanese and English versions, meaning current player accounts will not carry over.
