Cygames, the studio behind Umamusume: Pretty Derby and Granblue Fantasy, announced on January 9 the creation of Cygames AI Studio, a new subsidiary focused on AI technology development.
The newly established company will work on developing and distributing AI-powered tools and services while conducting research in artificial intelligence. According to Cygames, the studio’s main goal is to create in-house AI models that creators can use “safely and securely,” building on the company’s more than ten years of experience in game development.
“From research and development of in-house models, to providing services and tools to use in production environments, we are aiming to build a unique creation cycle that will extend creativity beyond a simple boost in efficiency,” the company stated in its announcement.

While Cygames has not shared specific details about how these in-house tools will be used, the company highlights “supporting creators” as a priority, along with safety, security, and efficiency.
This is not Cygames’ first venture into AI technology. At CEDEC 2025, the company revealed it has been using AI tools for several purposes, including making bug ticket creation faster, analyzing social media posts about their games, and checking visual assets for compliance with moral and global cultural standards. The company is currently considering adding AI technology to four of its existing games.
