Nintendo has confirmed a new Nintendo Switch Online update coming next month that will bring fresh additions to both the GameCube and Virtual Boy game libraries. Starting August 13, Super Mario Sunshine will join the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library on Nintendo Switch 2. The game was previously only playable through the now-discontinued 3D All-Stars collection, so this marks its return as a standalone offering.
On August 4, Nintendo will add two Virtual Boy games that were never actually released to the public. The two titles are D-Hopper and Zero Racers. This update will also include a previously announced feature that lets players customize the screen color on Virtual Boy games.
Zero Racers has an interesting history. It’s a spin-off tied to the F-Zero series, and a former Nintendo staff member has said the game was fully completed but never made it to store shelves. The game was originally known as G-Zero during its development for the Virtual Boy. Like several other titles planned for the system, it never released because the console sold poorly and was discontinued not long after launch.
With this update, most of the Virtual Boy’s game library will now be available through Nintendo Switch Online. The Virtual Boy option for the service launched earlier this year and requires a physical accessory to play.
