South Korean developer Dynamis One and publisher NC have officially pulled back the curtain on their upcoming RPG, Astrae Oratio (officially shortened to “Asora”), releasing a teaser video and launching an official website. The game is currently set for a 2026 release.
Details on characters and gameplay are still being kept under wraps, but the teaser gives a solid look at the game’s setting and core concepts.

Astrae Oratio takes place in 1889 Tokyo, referred to in-game as the 9th year of a fictional era called the Reisei Era. The setting puts a twist on history though, describing this version of Tokyo as “a world where technology, culture, and civilization are intricately intertwined, accelerating nearly a hundred years beyond what we know today.” In short, it looks like 1889 on paper but feels far more advanced.
In this world, Tokyo beat out Kyoto to host the next Expo, setting off a massive construction and development boom in the city. The soon-to-be-completed Tokyo Tower is one of the symbols of that growth. The city’s booming population also plays a direct role in its power, as magic in this world scales with the size of a city’s population. The teaser puts it plainly: “Tokyo is the largest metropolis in existence. That makes it the most powerful magical dominion in the world.”
Players will take on the role of a Shunin (a Japanese term meaning “chief” or “supervisor”), assigned to a body called the Special District Office. The office is described as “an institution that gives physical form to the concept of administration and anchors it upon this land” and is called “the sole signifier floating upon the vast ocean of magic.”

A major part of the game involves Trials of Dominion, which are essentially magic duels used to settle disputes between magicians. In these battles, magicians fight using weapons called Artifacts, described as physical manifestations of a magician’s will. These weapons range widely in form, from historically significant antiques to modern inventions inspired by contemporary ideas.
Astrae Oratio is shaping up to be an ambitious RPG with a unique blend of alternate history, Japanese setting, and magic-based combat. More information is expected to come as the 2026 launch window approaches.
