Paranormal Activity: Threshold has officially been canceled, with developer DarkStone Digital and publisher DreadXP confirming that development on the survival horror title has come to an end.
Originally announced in 2024, the game was being developed by Brian Clarke, best known as the creator of the acclaimed horror title The Mortuary Assistant. The project was based on the popular Paranormal Activity franchise and had already generated strong interest from horror fans following its showcase at PAX.
Brian Clarke Explains Why The Game Was Canceled

In a public statement shared following the announcement, Brian Clarke revealed that the game required additional development time in order to meet the quality standards he envisioned for the project. However, Paramount Pictures reportedly declined requests to extend the development timeline.
According to Clarke, this ultimately left the team with two difficult choices: rush development and release an unfinished product, or end the project entirely. Clarke chose to walk away from the license instead of compromising the game’s quality.
He also praised DreadXP for supporting his decision throughout the process, noting that the split with Paramount was handled amicably despite the disappointing outcome.
A Promising Horror Game That Won Fans At PAX

Before its cancellation, Paranormal Activity: Threshold had already received a positive response from players who experienced the game during public showcases. Many horror fans were particularly excited to see Brian Clarke return to psychological horror following the success of The Mortuary Assistant.
The game aimed to bring the tense atmosphere of the Paranormal Activity films into an interactive survival horror experience, blending supernatural scares with Clarke’s signature style of immersive first-person horror gameplay.
While specific gameplay details remained limited, early reactions suggested the project had strong potential among fans of indie horror titles.
Brian Clarke Teases Future Horror Projects

Despite the cancellation, Clarke confirmed that he has no plans to leave game development behind. In his statement, he mentioned taking a short break before eventually returning to create new horror experiences.
His message ended on a hopeful note, teasing that more terrifying projects could still be waiting in the future.

For now, Paranormal Activity: Threshold joins the growing list of canceled horror games that showed promise but ultimately never reached release.
