The world of the gothic RPG, Darkest Dungeon, is set to be explored further with a series of graphic novels, with crowdfunding starting in October 2026.
Red Hook Studios has teamed up with Vault Comics to publish the universe-expanding books that will feature canonical stories.
Chris Bourassa, the series’ creative director and Red Hook Studios co-founder, has collaborated with writer John Lees, known for works such as The Nasty from Vault Comics and Hotell from AWA, to work on the narrative.

Meanwhile, visual art will come courtesy of Maan House, whose previous works include Dark Souls from Titan Comics and The Cemeterians from Vault Comics.
The Vancouver-based studio’s co-founder stated that the Darkest Dungeon games were born from his love for reading comics. He cited the Bronze Age Batman books as one of his inspirations for his drawings growing up, and that he’s always dreamt of seeing Darkest Dungeon on the comics page since day one.
‘This book will be a meaningful, canonical entry in the ongoing lore of Darkest Dungeon, offering long-time fans new and important insights while introducing new readers to the characters, tone, and world that made our games so successful,’ Bourassa added.
Pre-launch sign-ups are now available via BackerKit, with more details as well as concept art and rare trinkets set to be announced in the lead-up to October 2026. With the BackerKit page already raising almost 30% of the goal, the project appears to have promising community support.
