NIS America dropped a new trailer for their upcoming game, Village in the Shade, with an October 27 release date—just in time for the spooky season. The announcement trailer showcased the game’s unique cosy life sim with a sinister twist, in all its hand-painted glory.
Village in the Shade sees players completing core farming sim tasks, including planting crops, fishing, hunting, and getting to know the interesting residents of the mountain village of Kagatsu.
The game’s darkness stems from the village rules, namely: don’t talk to strangers, don’t leave the village, and never go out at night.
Welcome to Kagatsu, a beautiful mountain town in rural Japan perfect for a change of pace! Meet the local townsfolk, hunt, mine, plant crops, and explore this brand-new, hand-painted farming sim.

Breaking said rules appeared to trigger the unsettling moments shown in the trailer, such as the appearance of ghosts. However, the game seems to hold a deeper secret reserved for those who are willing to break these rules.
Alongside the announcement trailer was the reveal of a ‘Village in the Sunshine’ mode, which completely removes all the horror elements from the game, in place of a fully-fledged cosy farming sim.
The separate reveal trailer plays the same during the first half but cuts just when it was about to show the scary aspects, and assures players through a puppet show that they can freely roam the world at night and not worry about breaking the village’s rules.
Village in the Shade and its Sunshine counterpart are available for pre-order now and will launch on both Switch consoles, PS5, and PC. It will have a physical option reserved for its limited edition, which also includes an artbook, the original soundtrack, stickers, pins, and an acrylic stand.
