Sony Interactive Entertainment has agreed to a $7.85 million settlement following a class action lawsuit involving digital purchases made through the PlayStation Store. The case, which was filed under Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, accused the company of antitrust violations related to how digital games were distributed and priced on its platform.
The settlement brings closure to a legal dispute that has been ongoing since 2021, with claims focusing on Sony’s digital ecosystem practices and their impact on market competition.
Who Is Eligible for the PlayStation Store Refunds?

According to the settlement details, eligible users are those who purchased digital games on the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023. The key condition is that the games were previously available through physical retail vouchers but were later purchased digitally.
Millions of accounts are expected to qualify, with estimates suggesting over 4.4 million eligible users. Affected titles include major releases such as The Last of Us Part II, God of War collections, LittleBigPlanet 3, Killzone Shadow Fall, and several others spanning different genres.
How Refunds Will Be Distributed

Eligible users with active PlayStation Network accounts will automatically receive compensation in the form of PlayStation Store credit. Those with inactive accounts are instructed to contact the settlement administrators to claim equivalent value through alternative methods.
The refund amount will vary depending on individual purchase history, meaning users who bought more qualifying titles may receive higher compensation.
Once finalized, payouts will be issued directly to accounts following court approval.
Court Approval and Next Steps

A Fairness Hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026, where a judge will review and potentially finalize the settlement. If approved, funds will be distributed to eligible users shortly afterward.
The lawsuit itself dates back to May 2021 and alleged that Sony’s digital distribution practices reduced competition and contributed to higher prices for certain digital games on the PlayStation Store.
Separate Legal Pressure in the United Kingdom
This U.S. settlement is separate from ongoing legal action in the United Kingdom, where Sony is facing another class action lawsuit over similar allegations related to digital pricing practices. That case could potentially result in significantly larger penalties, depending on its outcome.
For now, the U.S. settlement represents a major resolution in one of the most notable digital storefront lawsuits in the gaming industry, marking a rare instance where large-scale digital game purchases are being partially refunded at mass scale.
