Publisher NIS America has released the “Story” and “Battle” demos for The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon. Players can now explore the game early and carry over their save data to the full release.
The game launches in the West on January 15, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. Moreover, pre-loading the full game ensures a seamless transition from the demos.
Story Demo: A Glimpse Beyond the Horizon
The Story Demo is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It covers the game’s prologue and introduces Van Arkride, Rean Schwarzer, and Father Kevin Graham as they face a Marduk training exercise. Meanwhile, Zemuria prepares for its first space venture, and hidden secrets begin to surface.

This demo allows players to experience early plot developments and sets the stage for the larger story. Save data transfers to the main game via the day-one patch, ensuring continuity. As a result, returning players can continue their adventure without losing progress. Additionally, new players can easily catch up with the story before the full release.
Battle Demo: Test Your Skills in Grim Garten
The Battle Demo is exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It focuses on combat in the Grim Garten, a virtual reality service created by Marduk and now corrupted by Ouroboros. Players choose from three party members—Van, Kevin, and Rean—and engage in tactical battles.

Consequently, the demo provides a hands-on preview of the combat system while highlighting strategic depth and replayability. Furthermore, it demonstrates how party combinations and skill synergy can alter battle outcomes. In addition, the demo gives players insight into enemy patterns and tactical options they will encounter in the full game.
Looking Ahead to the Full Release
The game first launched in Japan and Asia on September 26, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, followed by PC via Steam on January 23, 2025. With the Western release approaching, fans worldwide can explore Zemuria’s mysteries, engage in immersive battles, and carry demo progress forward.

Moreover, a new trailer showcases the story, characters, and combat mechanics. Ultimately, the demos set the stage for an epic journey beyond the horizon. For more updates on the game, follow their official X account.
