Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will not reuse Rebirth’s battle system. Instead, the team is creating a fresh gameplay style that they plan to reveal “in the not so distant future”, according to director Naoki Hamaguchi.

Evolution Beyond Remake and Rebirth
In a recent interview, director Naoki Hamaguchi explained how the trilogy has shifted with each entry. Final Fantasy VII Remake was a linear, story-driven game. Rebirth then expanded into a large open-world experience. Both were well received by players.

Hamaguchi stressed that the third game will not simply repeat Rebirth’s design. Instead, the team wants to offer something “different and fresh.” The goal is to evolve the battle system again and give players a new style of gameplay.
Already in Development

Hamaguchi revealed that the new system already exists in an internal build. The developers can play it now, and progress is going smoothly. He said the gameplay is shaping up to deliver a fitting climax to the trilogy.
“We don’t want to deliver exactly the same style of gameplay as Rebirth again,” Hamaguchi said. “We’re going to evolve it and change it to give another fresh take on Final Fantasy VII. That will be revealed in the not too distant future.”
Announcement Coming Soon

Hamaguchi promised that Square Enix will share details soon. He added that the project is “moving in the right direction.” The team believes this final game will close out the Remake series in a satisfying way.
For now, Square Enix encourages fans to revisit Final Fantasy VII Remake. Players should also get ready for Rebirth’s upcoming launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox, before looking forward to the highly anticipated finale.
