At Tokyo Game Show 2025, The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales was available for hands-on play, giving us a first look at this upcoming action RPG. The game caught attention with its distinctive visual approach and gameplay that mixes exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. After spending time with the demo, it became clear that Square Enix is aiming to deliver an experience that combines familiar RPG elements with some interesting new ideas.
The game takes place in a medieval fantasy world. The Kingdom of Huther is humanity’s last safe place, protected by a magical barrier. When unknown ruins are discovered, a King assigns the adventurer Elliot to investigate them. Elliot travels with his fairy companion Faie into dangerous lands filled with monsters. The adventure covers the continent and explores a thousand years of hidden history. Players will open new paths through untamed lands, discover long-lost secrets, and follow the connected fates of Elliot and Faie.

Core Gameplay
Fairies serve an important function in this world. Faie helps not just in combat, but also in solving puzzles during exploration. This makes traveling through the game both strategic and rewarding. The battle system focuses on action gameplay with support abilities from Faie. Players can use regular attacks, charged attacks, and defend with a shield. The game includes perfect parries that require good timing and skill.

One highlight was a boss fight against the Lord of the Maw, a monster that looks like an anglerfish. This boss uses bubbles and its large mouth to try and absorb players for heavy damage. The strategy involves planting bombs to stagger the creature and expose its weak spot. The fight includes unique mechanics—when it releases a full-screen wave attack, players need to watch which lotus leaf is lower and jump onto it to avoid getting swept away.

In the second phase, the boss summons tornadoes that block bombs, requiring players to change their tactics. The game allows players to revive and continue if they die during boss fights. Through repeated attempts, the fight patterns become clearer, and successful dodges or counterattacks become more satisfying.
First Impression
Our time with The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales left a strong impression. The HD-2D visuals, fairy-assisted exploration, and boss mechanics combine to create an RPG experience that feels both fresh and familiar. The Lord of the Maw fight demonstrated creative and dynamic combat that balances difficulty with enjoyment.

The game presents a notable challenge, but overcoming obstacles provides a sense of achievement. If the full game maintains the quality shown in the demo, The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales could become another notable RPG release from Square Enix.
