With the conclusion of the Torchlight: Infinite closed beta, the date for the open beta has also been announced. The Torchlight: Infinite open beta date has been set for 12 October 2022 with Season 1: Dark Surge.
It could be considered a soft launch in a way as account data will not be wiped following the end of the season but will be maintained in a permanent server. Season 2 will launch with a new server.
David Brevik, creator of the Diablo series, has also joined the team as consulting producer, with a promise to make the best hack and slash game yet.
You might have heard rumblings about Torchlight: Infinite being “pay to win”, as we reported here. There has since been a dev blog post to address these concerns, talking about the adjustment plans for microtransactions. The talking points can be summarized as follows:
- Trade House: Base free Booth Tab slots increased, price for each tab reduced, purchasing a Season Pass
- Hero Traits: Future heroes’ first hero traits unlocked on purchase of Season Pass, other traits available through direct purchase, increase avenues to obtain traits for free e.g. through in-game resources or achievements
- Season Pass: Base Auto-Pick (auto-loot) will be part of free track reward
Will these changes be enough for players in practice? Well, you’ll be able to find out for yourself soon enough when you have more time to play.
