miHoYo’s newly announced open-world game Varsapura has caught the attention of eagle-eyed viewers who spotted recognizable Singapore road names in its 31-minute gameplay demo.
During the open-world driving section of the demo, road signs clearly display actual Singapore street names including Rochor Road, Serangoon Road, Ophir Road, and Kallang Road. The streets shown in the game also bear a strong resemblance to real Singapore locations, leading some players to joke that Varsapura is a play on Singapura, the Malay name for Singapore.
miHoYo recently announced Varsapura as a new open-world game being built on Unreal Engine 5. The company has not yet revealed which platforms will support the game or provided a release date.
The game centers around an organization called SEAL (Shadow Emergency Alliance). Based on the announcement materials, players will take on missions in what the game describes as “live operational environments.” One interesting feature is that the main character’s appearance changes based on each player’s preferences when entering Varsapura, though this is explained in-game as a “parapsychological effect” with mysterious origins.
The developer is currently hiring for multiple positions related to Varsapura at its Shanghai and Singapore offices, indicating the project is still actively in development. So far, only an English voice-over has been released, with miHoYo stating that other language options are being worked on.
The use of real Singapore locations in the demo suggests that Varaspura may feature settings inspired by or based on the city-state, though miHoYo has not officially confirmed the game’s exact location or setting.
