Valve has announced it needs more time to finalize pricing and release dates for its upcoming hardware lineup—the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller, citing ongoing memory and storage shortages affecting the tech industry.
The company originally planned to share specific pricing and launch dates by early February after revealing the products in November 2025. However, limited availability and rising costs of essential components have forced Valve to reconsider its timeline and pricing strategy, particularly for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame.
Despite these delays, Valve maintains its goal of shipping all three products during the first half of 2026. The company acknowledged the rapidly changing nature of component availability and pricing, promising to provide updates as soon as concrete details are confirmed. While pricing remains uncertain, Valve released a FAQ addressing common questions about the upcoming devices:

The Steam Frame will support streaming services through SteamOS’s built-in browser using a theatrical mode. The headset features a modular design, allowing third-party developers and the community to create custom features and accessories. A notable feature is foveated streaming, which uses eye tracking to stream high-resolution data only where the user is looking—reducing bandwidth without requiring game developer support. This is different from foveated rendering and works with all games as a system-level feature.
Valve reports that most Steam games run well on the Steam Machine at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second with FSR enabled. Some demanding titles may require additional upscaling or lower framerates to maintain quality. The company is actively working on HDMI VRR support, improved upscaling methods, and better ray tracing performance through driver updates. The new Steam Controller will work with any game that supports the Steam Overlay, including non-Steam titles.
While Valve has discontinued production of the Valve Index VR headset, the company confirmed it will continue supporting existing Index owners as it has in the past. Valve plans to share more detailed information about specific features and updates through the Steam Hardware blog as the launch approaches.
