Toei Animation has announced that a game based on the 2014 sci-fi anime film Expelled from Paradise is currently in development. The game is planned to launch in Japan this winter, though the official title, genre, supported platforms, and developer have yet to be revealed.
The game will take place in the same world as the film but will tell a completely original story. Its release is being timed alongside the upcoming sequel film, Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart, which is set to premiere on November 13.
Expelled from Paradise was directed by Seiji Mizushima, known for his work on Fullmetal Alchemist and Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and written by Gen Urobuchi of Nitroplus, whose credits include Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero. It was their first original theatrical project together and made use of state-of-the-art 3D CG animation.
The story is set in a future where most of humanity lives in a digital universe called DEVA. When DEVA’s mainframe is hacked by a mysterious figure from Earth, security officer Angela Balzac is sent down to the surface to investigate. Equipped with a powered exoskeleton called Arhan, she heads to the ruined surface world to track down the hacker and uncover their motives. No further details about the Expelled from Paradise game have been shared at this time.
