2K has officially launched the first DLC for Borderlands 4 named Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, bringing a brand-new Vault Hunter, a fresh zone, new bosses, and a mountain of loot for players to dig into.
The DLC introduces C4SH (pronounced “Cash”) the Rogue, a CasinoBot who won a magical deck of cards in a high-stakes card game, giving him access to eldritch-powered abilities. He is the first of two new Vault Hunters planned for Borderlands 4’s post-launch content. C4SH can be used across both the base game and DLC zones, and players who own Story Pack 1 can create a new character that jumps straight into the DLC content starting at level 13.
The new zone, The Whispering Glacier, is a frozen wasteland filled with wrecked ships and dark secrets. Players team up with Ellie, Moxxi’s daughter and a familiar face for longtime fans to destroy an alien monolith and enter the Vault of the Damned. Mancubus Bloodtooth also returns to guide players through the icy region. The zone comes packed with missions, activities, collectibles, two major boss fights, and 16 minibosses. Enemies include DAHL Legion soldiers, Kraggons, and Scavs.On the loot side, Story Pack 1 adds 18 new Legendary items, three new Pearlescent weapons, and 31 new cosmetic items, giving players plenty of new gear to build around.
Alongside the DLC, a free major update rolled out for all Borderlands 4 players on March 26. The headline additions are a level cap increase from 50 to 60 and a new feature called Shared Character Progression. With this system, any new character players create will automatically inherit map progress, collectibles, SDU tokens, Hover Drives, cosmetic rewards, and activity progress that other characters on the same save file have already unlocked.
