Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release on November 19th, 2026, but PC players will have to wait. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently explained why, and it comes down to one simple reason: consoles are where Rockstar’s core audience is. Speaking with Bloomberg, Zelnick was asked directly about the decision to skip PC at launch. His answer pointed to how Rockstar has always operated.
“Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,” Zelnick said. “Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers.”
This is not the first time Rockstar has done this. Several of the studio’s biggest games came to PC well after their console launches. Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, and both Red Dead Redemption titles all followed the same pattern. GTA V, for example, launched on consoles in 2013 but did not arrive on PC until 2015, roughly a year and a half later.
Rockstar has also used the extra time to improve its PC versions. Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC came with enhanced visuals that went beyond what the console versions offered, giving players a noticeably different experience. GTA 6 was first announced in December 2023. After that, Rockstar stayed quiet for over a year before announcing a delay from Fall 2025 to May 2026 in May 2025. Another update in November 2025 pushed the date again to November 19th, 2026.

Take-Two has confirmed that Rockstar will begin marketing the game this summer, though no further details were given. As of now, the November 19th console release date is the only confirmed launch window.
